how to use FASTEM of ie3d
Hi,
U can go thr Chapter-5 of IE3D Manual for FastEM Design Kit and Real-Time EM
Tuning, Optimization and Synthesis. They have explained it with inset fed Microstrip
patch Antenna.I think this will helpful u.
Yes. FastEM tuning and optimization are discussed in the IE3D's user's manual. It is mainly on the polygon editor or MGRID. In fact, it can be done even easier on IE3DLIBRARY.
FastEM involves 3 procedures:
1. Parameterization (different on MGRID and IE3DLIBRARY).
2. FastEM Preparation (same on MGRID and IE3DLIBRARY). In the SIMULATION SETUP, you just define some different combinations of run for the tuning).
3. FastEM Tuning and Optimizaiton (Same on MGRID and IE3DLIBRARY). It is the time you can use the prepared data to get real-time results.
The main difference is in parameterizations. On MGRID, you need to define location of vertices and polygons as tuning variables. You can't do high level equation based tuning even though you can do some assocation of tuning variables. For many parameterizations, it might be enough. For more sophisticated optimizaiton, it is inconvenient. On IE3DLIBRARY. you define the tuning variables in the object level. You can use equation based geometry modeling and you can apply boolean operations between objects. It is more convenient in parameterizaiton even though IE3DLIBRARY is less flexible in handling shapes in some other caes because the users can't access low level geometry primitives such as polygons and vertices. MGRID and IE3DLIBRARY are complementary.
The insert fed circular patch antenna posted by atul in a previous thread is an good example. The IE3DLIBRARY project files are attached here. Defining the radius, the insert feed parameters as tuning variables is tedious on MGRID even though it is doable. It is quite simple to define them on IE3DLIBRARY. If you have IE3D, you can just open the cir_patch2.ie3 file on IE3DLIBRARY. Select Process->Simulate. Define frequency and tuning settings. Then, let it runs some time. After it is finished, you can select Process->FastEM ... You can tune the structure in real-time. There are some movies in the download of www.zeland.com. Please try it. Regards.
