phase reference frequency

Hi

I'm new to MWS and have a question about the simultanious excitation. In the the transient solver you can choose between Phase Shift and Tim delay and if you you the Phase Shift option you have to set a phase reference frequency. I don't understand what this frequency means and how it will effect my results. Can somebody help me with this simple question please?
