Question about Power limiter

Hi everybody,

Is it possible to design a power limiter ( with pin diode or schottky diode) with a threshold at 0dBm (possibly even at -10dBm). If that is the case, how ?

it has two options.
1)use the limiter diode from the manufacturer what ever he says on threshold.
2) Use closed loop control and have tight control on the threshold which ever you desire.

The most accurate power limiter is to use a Power Control Loop (coupler, detector, comparator, PIN attenuator). You can get +/- 0.1 dB accuracy using this topology.

That's what I'm tring to do with a coupler, a detector and pin attenuator even if I still don't have a threshold at 0dBm. But what do you mean by a comparator ?

NB :I just want to make it clear that I don't have to exceed 0.3-0.4dB for Insertion Loss

The comparator in this case represents an error amplifier using a reference voltage as a threshold.

0.3-0.4dB insertion loss is in the range of the insertion loss for usual couplers.

That's what I have done but it's still hard for me to reach 0dBm for the threshold. The truth is that either you choose a limiter with 0dBm as threshold but high insertion loss or a limiter with something like 10dBm for limiting and very low Insertion loss.
So, I still think that it's impossible to reach 0dBm for the threshold with low loss...

In a PCL system the extra power loss is given ONLY by the insertion loss of the coupler, which as I said is a fraction of a dB.
To increase the gain of the loop can be inserted an amplifier after the detector. In this way can set the threshold at very low levels. Have to check the loop for stability.
Using PCL should be no problem to reach high accuracy.

But, if you don't mind, do you have some papers that can explain the use of this amplifier (comparator) after the detector please ? because I didn't find one although I'm working on this limiter for weeks.
