Insertion Loss vary with phase in phase shifter

Hi everyone,

I'm designing an on chip phase shifter using metamaterial-based transmission line, the phase can be shifter by varying the value of a active inductor and some moscap. It can provide a phase shift 90deg@24Ghz (my desired freq) and the minimum insertion loss = 2dB. But the problem is the insertion loss varies with the phase shift (from 2dB to 8dB). I really need your help on 2 questions:
1. Does the variation in insertion loss affect the performance of a phased-array Tx/Rx?
2. Is there any technique that can reduce that variation.

Please rely, thank you very much!

Sounds like your design needs some more work. Are your components Q too low, or is the impedance match just very bad for certain phase shifts?

It happens, try to incorporate the compensator.
