Mechanical specifications for BNC plug

Does anyone have a detailed, authorative source for the the mechanical specifications of a BNC plug? We have some plugs and jacks which don't mate very well - it takes a lot of force to get them to mount. But it's hard to know what is at fault, as I can't find an authorative mechanical specification.
One difference I have noticed between two plugs is the metal between the dielectric and the connector body which slides into the female has a number of slits on it. One of the plugs has 4 slits, the other has 6. One theory is the plug with 6 slits can apply pressure more evenly to the female socket, which makes it easier to mount.
Wikipedia has a link to the specifications, but its not a formal spec, but just an electrical spec from a manufacturer. Although I managed to find an engineering drawing of a BNC, it was not complete - there was insufficient information for someone to actually design and build one. #
