HFSS "Matrix solver exception: out of disk space" But why?

I'm trying to simulate what I believe is a fairly simple model in HFSS - a monopole against a ground-plane, with a cylinder around the monopole which has vacuum in it.

HFSS, which is running on Linux, keeps giving an error about the solver failing as the disk is full
Code:
Adaptive Pass 3 Frequency: 0.7 GHz
  Mesh (volume, adaptive) 00:01:36 00:01:36 461 M 476368 tetrahedra
Simulation Setup 00:00:22 00:00:22 583 M Disk = 0 KBytes
Matrix Assembly 00:00:44 00:00:44 2.47 G Disk = 0 KBytes, 470505 tetrahedra , 1: 22 triangles
Matrix solver exception: out of disk space.

Solution Process Elapsed time : 00:05:08 , Hfss ComEngine Memory : 219 M
***Matrix solver exception: out of disk space.

But it does not report what file system is full. Every time I inspect the system afterwards, there seems to be plenty of disk space free.
Code:
[deborah@smike log]Sdf -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
                       23G 5.0G 17G 23% /
/dev/sda1 99M 15M 80M 16% /boot
none 22G 0 22G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sdc1 275G 55G 207G 21% /home/deborah/HFSS
/dev/sdb1 68G 2.2G 62G 4% /usr/local/EM
There's nothing in the data from 'dmesg' or /var/log/messages to indicate the disk filled up. I'm not a Linux expert, but I would have expected such an event to be logged.

The machine has 48 GB of RAM in it, so I doubt it is running out of RAM and swapping.

Temp files were saved to /tmp, but I then moved a directory which has 207 GB free.

I discovered I'd set the solution frequency about 20x higher than I wanted. So this became electrically much larger than I needed. But it is still not a helpful error message, and there's nothing in the previous pass to indicate the RAM usage is excessive, given the machine has 48 GB of RAM
