HFSS "Matrix solver exception: out of disk space" But why?

I'm trying to simulate what I believe is a fairly simple model in HFSS - a monopole against a ground-plane, with a cylinder around the monopole which has vacuum in it.
HFSS, which is running on Linux, keeps giving an error about the solver failing as the disk is full
But it does not report what file system is full. Every time I inspect the system afterwards, there seems to be plenty of disk space free.
There's nothing in the data from 'dmesg' or /var/log/messages to indicate the disk filled up. I'm not a Linux expert, but I would have expected such an event to be logged.
The machine has 48 GB of RAM in it, so I doubt it is running out of RAM and swapping.
Temp files were saved to /tmp, but I then moved a directory which has 207 GB free.

I discovered I'd set the solution frequency about 20x higher than I wanted. So this became electrically much larger than I needed. But it is still not a helpful error message, and there's nothing in the previous pass to indicate the RAM usage is excessive, given the machine has 48 GB of RAM
