Understand GSM transmit/receive

Hello all,

When you have a tranceiver with RF front end to support GSM, we usually connect the transmit path to a PA that goes to the switch and antenna. THe GSM receive path is again through the primary switch to the tranceiver. (Unlike other technologies where we use a duplexer-FDD). I understand GSM is TDD and hence you dont need a duplexer.

Lets say your in a GSM call (full duplex communication).--> Was curious if the antenna switch would toggle back and forth between GSM transmit and GSM receive (when you talk-tranmit and when you listen-receive)?

As far as what I can think, it should switch back and forth between GSM tranmit and receive. If it does , would that not cause interruption in my call as there is a time delay when it switches back and forth?

Thanks.

GSM is a half-duplex TDMA (time division) communication. Receive and Transmit are time separated. All the T/R switching times are precisely defined in GSM, so never happen what you think.
