Power handling laboratory
I am looking for a laboratory to the test the power handling of passive components in Ka band.
Any suggestion?
thanks
What power level is involved?
If it were me, I would jones around for a used magnetron or klystron....possibly a military surplus radar.
the power should be 1kW peak.
Magnetron and Klystron have very low bandwidth and as long as I know the ka band frequencies are scarcely used . . .
One kilowatt is a lot of power, and it becomes costly with a cube of frequency. You will have to choose carefully the frequency band of interest, and then find signal sources, power meters, attenuators, etc, to fit your target.
At Ka-band, the military mostly use 34-36 GHz, so you may find some radar transmitter that could be used. At 1 kW even attenuators are scarcely available that can handle so much power. Then if you use short pulses or CW makes a difference.
Some Ka-band high-power makers are in the UK. Try to contact them, you may end up with purchasing their laboratory services to test your components.
most people test low power broadband, and then do high power at only one or two frequencies. To get different frequencies, you buy multiple magnatrons to put on the same power supply
