how to find the dynamic range of a power detector?
I'm new to cadence and would like to find the dynamic range for power detector. What kind of simulation should i use to get the dynamic range?
Attached is the schematic of the power detector.
I do not trust simulations. A RF detector must be tested to know its dynamic range.
The "bottom" is TSS, the tangential sensitivity tested with 1 kHz modulated signal and reading taken on an oscilloscope. The RF input for resolvable "noise" and "signal" levels is typically lower than -30 dBm. Load impedance is important as well as video bandwidth.
The "top" input power depends on what you need the response. Below -20 dBm, the detector response is "square-root" or output voltage linearly proportional to RF input power. Up to 0...+10 dBm the response is close to saturation, and above +13 dBm, Schottky-diode detectors reflect all RF power back, so it is tough to burn the diode.
Check detector makers like Herotek, Mini-Circuits and others, they show typical detector parameters,
