resolution in Synthetic Aperture Radar technology

Hi,

In Synthetic Aperture Radar technology, the theoretical cross-range resolution of SAR is D/2, where D is the horizontal dimension of the SAR?s real antenna aperture.

That means, the larger the aperture of the real antenna the worse the cross-range resolution. Is that correct?

Senmeis

Yes, I think this> the smaller is the antenna the larger is beamwidth, the longer is the acquisition the better is te resolution, but... the smaller is the antenna the lower is the gain the more noise is the acqusition, it is a compromise as usual.

Increasing the length of the antenna makes the aperture large and hence a higher resolution can be achieved.

No. SAR works differently. But instead of to words, just an extract from one of thousands books on this topic.

senmeis is right.
