how can i find the best simulator for my structure

dear all :
i am using ansoft ensemble 8.0 to simulate a ring resoantor.
but i don't make sure that my result is correct..
who can tell me how can i find the best simulator in this case ?

thanks a lot

Hi,

first "callibrate" yourself and the problem you are studing. Find some paper on the same or similar topic and play a bit with your simulator to get the same results. This will help you to get experience and feeling for the best choice of meshing frequency, number of adaptive passes, maximum aspect ratio of triangles etc. and Then move to your original structure and repete the same procedure. It always works, it should work with your ring resonator as well!

Flyhigh

All 2.5d simulators (Ansoft,MWO,HFSS,Genesys) have good results if you will use the advices from "flyhigh". But also, the very good method for best designing is checking results by mesuare equipment after simulation and breadboard circuit.

you can simulate your structure with CST Microwave Studio, then compare the results with those with HFSS.

Ansoft HFSS has very exact results, try it

Is possible to use Ansoft HFSS 9.1 with win2k. Pentium 850 ,256MB RAM ?
Or too slow ?
Perhaps anybody here has tried HFSS 9 with this PC configuration

IMHO, it's slow, problem will be with low memory, HFSS is the most hungry simulator I've ever seen..

Good luck,

eirp

Hi,
I am using Pentium 750 with 256 MB RAM and it's very easy to make HFSS eat all the memory and start swapping, which makes impossible to run bigger simulations. I think that 512 MB of RAM would be a minimum to work more or less freely, but when you run small simulations 256 MB is quite enough, IMHO.

I agree with eirp, it consumes a lot of memory comparing to other programs like CST MWS.

About the processor of course faster is better in terms of simulation time. :D I found in some topic on Elektroda that AMD Athlons are better than Pentium IV for EM simulations, if I remember correctly.

Greetings,
Redi.

you can find a very good full-wave simulator at the following address:

www.memresearch.com

midnite

CST is very user friendly but Is it accurate comparing to other programs like HFSS?

You can try Ensemble 7.0 and 6.0.
I think Ensemble 7.0 is best for ring resonator.

IE3D is very suitable for 2D simulation.
And can provide accurate resonance frequency band .

IE3D is good.

hi sir,IE3D from zeland.com is one of most accurate simulator in wide band with easy construct your design,i vote XuQing for his reply
