The new release of the 3D EM field solver Empire? reveals a completely redesigned and intuitive Graphical User
Interface. In addition to new features, like Wizards, Templates and even further speed improvements, it exhibits a vast
range of enhancements which will speed up the new user?s learning process.
The new GUI appears in the well known Windows XP design with a new set of easy-to-memorize icons which allow to
apply all important operations in a back- and forward manner. So both fast and intuitive usage is supported for
structure definition. Editor, simulation control and result graphs are now unified in one main window which eases the
control and overview of the project under work. A large and user-extendable database of metals and materials with
advanced and highly efficient loss models have been included and can be accessed by a smart wizard. Further, a large
set of templates for most applications with adjustable parameters can be used to start from the scratch.
The Empire? kernel, already known to be the fastest FDTD solver on the market, has even been accelerated in the
new version by a highly advanced exploitation of modern processor architecture. A speed up of 190 % has been
achieved on Pentium 4 and Athlon XP processors using a novel multiple time stepping scheme.
A lot of new helpful features and user requests could be incorporated into the new version to satisfy the needs for
novice and professional users:
New Features:
ü All modules fully integrated in one window
ü Intuitive Windows XP look & feel
ü Metal & material wizards
ü Structure template wizard
ü Strongly improved automatic meshing
ü Guided forward & backward structure set up
ü New icon set with on-line help for all operations
ü Parameter variation of solids
ü Kernel speed up (120 Mcells / sec)
ü Meta Materials support
ü SPICE parameter extraction
ü Optimized broad band loss models
ü Clipboard copying of results into Office tools
ü Scrollable markers on result graphs
