ansoft designer tutorial
Attached is the online help documentation for using Optimetrics in Ansoft Designer. It is similar to that used in HFSS, and in fact, the header of the document erroneously says "HFSS".
Also attached is a file containing mumerous examples for doing Planar EM analyses, several of which include optimizations for microstrip patches among others.
Both of theses attachments are usually included as part of the regular software installation.
i try to follow the optimetric.pdf, but when i try to put parametric setup, error prompted "there is no variable created".i am new in this fields, could u pls guide me or supply more documentation.do u have any documention with example?
you need to set up a variable by right clicking "HFSSModel1" in the project tree. then go to design variables. add a new variable name and value. then put your variable name in the hfss model. look at the getting started manual, the tee junction, they make a variable.
I have a question though, what is the difference between cost and goal? the help menu doesn't say the difference.
could anybody please upload a simple step by step tutorial on how to use the ansoft designer?
Thank you
Download the attachment to new subject titled "Ansoft Designer Getting Started Guide" just posted in this forum.

thank you!
Hi all,
Here is Ansoft designer training, It's good for beginer and talks about Optimization carefully, I think.

hi spide;
i have the same problem as yours? i dont know how to create the variable. did you find it? could you help me.
thanks
some additional thoughts and caveats on the subject of optimizing designs in Ansoft Designer and/or Ansoft HFSS.
first (in my opinion) it is necessary to have at least a basic knowledge of microwave circuits and electromagnetics in order to appreciate the significance and validity of results produced by these programs.
second, it is important to understand the limitations of the programs: for example, Ansoft Designer Planar EM uses the method of moments and has limited application in the modeling of complex interconnects (where HFSS or some other program would be a better choice).
third, the accuracy of results is highly dependent on the density and type of meshing and the degree to which the models are converged - a good understanding of s-parameters is critical for this.
fourth, before optimizing a design, it is important to start from a reasonable initial design (you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear).
fifth, before proceeding with an automatic optimization, i prefer to do a few hand optimizations by varying one or two circuit parameters (such as the width of a microstrip). this will give you a feel for the sensitivity of the design to the relevant parameters and will allow you to set up meaningful ranges and step sizes for the automatic optimization.
unfortunately, the tutorials and user guide information that are readily available online tend not to address these issues.
