hi
Can anyone explain me the difference between exciting a structure with a wave port and exciting it with a plane wave option in HFSS.
i have excite a dielectric cylinder ...how shall i excite it .. with a waveport or with plane wave?
Thanx in advance

Pls can somebody explain me ?
In that case you will have to excite the dielectric cylinder with plane wave. Wave ports are generally from closed structure and the fields on the port will be dependent on the transmission line. e.g TE mode from waveguide or TEM mode for coaxial. But in plane wave we are assuming that E & H are transverse to each other just like the plane wave propagates in space.
Plane wave excitations is used for scattering problem, while wave port or lump port is used for guided-wave problem.
thanx for the help!
