hi
what is the maximum current density in a power plane? at a given max temperature rise. I found some calculators for narrow traces, but i need it in a wide short plane. So i use the FEMM program ( http://femm.foster-miller.net/wiki/HomePage ), with this i can simulate the actual current densities in my PCB power plane in (A/m2 as a cross section). OK. but what is too much (too high J) and how should I see it?
at every point it has to be below an absolute maximum value? or as an average on a not too small area (eg 5mm*5mm), or as an average on a wider cross section piece (line integral)?
