[HFSS] Calculate the loss inside the waveguide

Hi everyone.
I add a silicon waveguide inside a CPW, and I want to calculate the loss inside the silicon waveguide.
Can I use volume loss density in the Fields calculator and just integrate over the volume of the silicon waveguide?
And what is the unit of the result?
Thank you.

If you have electronics desktop 17, 2D extractor seems pretty good for doing this type of solving.

If you're just using regular HFSS, a scattering analysis should give you a good indication of how much power is lost for your excited mode(s).

Thank you for the advice.
By scattering analysis, do you mean compare the difference between the s21 parameters?
But I can only calculate the power loss in dB with this method.

You'd find loss as 1-|S11|^2-|S21|^2. Yes, this will get you the total loss of the mode. If you're just looking at the fraction of the loss inside of the silicon layer, you could manually computer the scattering (integrate incident and reflected powers) over a sheet that jsut covers the ends of the silicon.

Thanks for the explanation.
Is there any method which can find the total loss in Watts in the whole volume of the silicon waveguide?

Hi guys, I found an equation for the loss per unit volume.
I wonder if I can find the average E field in the silicon and substitute it into this equation.
But there seems no average operation in the hfss field calculator.
Could anyone tell me how to get the average E field in a certain volume?
