Hi folks,

Does anyone have the experiences to simulate the edge-coupled band-pass filter with stripline form?

For example, if the fabrication is sandwiching the copper conductor with two dielectric substrate, and laminate them with prepare, how can I set that in the simulation engine.

If I build the copper layer embedded within two dielectric laminates, it doesn't represent the real case since in the simulation there is no prepare.

So should I build a bulky 3D copper structure, and then fill the other space in-between the dielectric substrate with the prepare materials; or just embedded the copper structure inside the top dielectric laminate?

You can do it.
Just take care that the prepeg thickness is much smaller when compared to the substrates in strip line

I just make a quick simulation comparison for Ku band edge-coupled stripline band-pass filter with and without building the prepreg on roger dielectric laminates.

The basic structures are:
1. with the 1.5 mil prepreg and 1/2 OZ copper, which is sandwitched by two RO3006 25mil laminates.

2. without the prepreg, with 1/2 OZ copper, and also sandwitched by the same laminates.

The frequency shifts are quick significant in this case for the BPF response.

So I thick it should be quick critical to set-up the true 3D conductor and consider the prepreg effects for the simulations.

I agree that there will be frequency shift. but we should focus on the percentage shift only.
Per say let a structure is designed for 2.4GHz resonant with 10%BW but the fabricated one gives 12%BW with 2.39GHz due to substrate, fabrication tolerances etc.
Still the fabricated structure meets the requirement.

First finalize your design requirements.

I agree that the frequency shift can always be compensated by changing the length of the filter arms. However, if we don't consider the prepreg effects initially in the EM simulations, it will cause us to build a few more prototypes in order to refine the design, and it loss the meaning of using simulation software to reduce round-off of PCB prototyping. So I think it is a good initial point for us to build the EM simulation with prepreg in the structure for the 1st round prototyping.
