Reflect array unit cell design help
can any one please help me with reflect array antenna init cell design. I have designed a unit cell with Electric and magnetic boundaries in X-plane and Y-plane. My S11 shows all powe is reflected, which is good i suppose, now how to get phase response from it and how to make reflect array antenna using it
Welcome wizard_wiz,
The setup sounds like a good start. However, it sounds as if there is a lack of understanding - I would go back and review the fundamentals of microwave engineering (transmission-line theory, etc.) before proceeding. It should be fairly evident that the reflection phase is the phase of S11.
Good Luck
Thanks planar metamaterials,
I have the basic understanding of TL and have designed a number of horn and patch antennas. I am just new to reflectarray antennas. Just started it as its my new task. can you refer me to some good material regarding RA antennas and unit cell specially. Any help, tutorial, is appreciated. actually i am getting the phase response but its not correct. plus which software should i use, CST or HFSS for this, i know how to use both but still which one is recommended.
Regards
Hi wizard_wiz,
Good to hear. Your phase may be incorrect because you are not de-embedding it (?).
For materials I'm not sure -- I know HFSS has some good built-in tutorials.
I've only used HFSS, it works fine, but many of my colleagues use CST. I would assume it's really just a matter of preference and optimization for your specific design.
hi,
yes... i have not deembeded it, i was also thinking how come s11 phase gives the phase response of the unit cell. it has the ground and the patch so every response is in it. currently i am using CST for unit cell i will shift to HFSS, just a question, how to de-embed the unit cell response from the incident field and reflected field in HFSS.
Regards
There's a de-embed option on the port.
If you're using an incident plane wave and the TF/SF approach, you'll have to de-embed manually.
