Port Only Solution in HFSS
Say for example a microstrip line is excited using the waveport, and we need to define an integration line.....
we run the ports only solution, is that right ?...... then what are the parameters (like fields)are to be seen in the structure and what do they convey about the direction of the direction of the integration lines?.
maverick shalom,
1) When using ports solution only I recommend to increase the port solutoin accuracy to 0.5%
2) You can learn on Z0 and Gamma (=alpha +i*beta). Which are the attenuation and propagation constant
3) You can learn on the effective lambda and epsilon of the transmition line
4) use the port lines to correctly calculate Z0 and normalize the phase to 0 (and not to 180 deg)

Itai
How will i know that I am getting a right Z0?...
Hi maverick09,
Use (ADS) line calculator to get the port impedance for your Transmission line or waveguide, and then compare it to whatever HFSS is given you. The difference between the two should be small in the order of few ohms at max, that if your HFSS setup is correct.
