How to simulate the RJ45 Connector?

时间:03-23 整理:3721RD 点击:
Hi all,
I have used IE3D to simulate it but the simulated results at low frequency(below 100MHz) is quite different from the experimental results. I try to use CST but there is no differential port. What is the difference when i try to use discrete port comparing with differential port?

IE3D should be accurate in this case. You made some mistake and I can't see where so upload here your IE3D file.

BTW. In CST you have already RJ45 connector example.

Hi goxy,

Yup, you're right. In CST, there is a example of RJ45 but this example is using ground plane. Practically, there is no common ground. They are using differential mode for transmission. Also, IE3D is required the couple line must be symmetry for differential port. It means I can't simulate the trace on PCB. Therefore, I don't know is it correct to simulate RJ45 connector with PCB using IE3D or CST.

Here is the geometry file of RJ45 connector without PCB. Please help me to solve it. Thanks a lot !! :)

Sorry.......

Here is the geometry file

You made mistake because you used IE3D for this problem
IE3D is accurate like as other simulators but this is structure with a lot of unknowns, more than 8000 in this case and because need loooooooong time for solving. It's a characteristic of all MOM based tools. Sorry, I haven't supercomputer to check this in IE3D :(

MWS is a very powerfull and right simulator for your problem so you can expect good results in reasonable time.
When you simulate this in MWS, post simulated and measured results here.

Hi pro,
since there is no ground plane in actual RJ45 connector, how to simulate using CST? Is ground plane a must in this RJ45 simulation? Please help!

In MWS use a waveguide port. You do not need a ground, just use the multipin port tick box in the transient analysis box. Select each conductor and define your modes, sum, difference etc.

Hope this helps.

Matt

Hi Matt:

Thank you! Can I define as differential mode port for simiulation? I need the S21 parameter for each pair combination such as 12&45. ( port 1 for pin 1&2; port 2 for pin 4&5 ). I built the model already including metal conductors, 2-layer PCB trace, but suffered in port definition. I will try tomorrow, TKS!! M-Power
