hfss radiation boundary

hi,

i have a very basic doubt about HFSS boundary conditions.can anybody tell me wat is a radiation boundary in HFSS?why, if at all , we need to define a radiation boundary for antenna structures(such as a microstrip patch antenna).and whether we need to define it also when we r simulating non-radiating structures (such as micromachined phase shifters).

another question is that - wat should be its size,if we need to define it anyway??

if anybody knows the answers plz kindly share ur views .

with regards
abhi

To my understanding,

radition boundary is to make sure that the radiation from the device (i.e. antenna) does not reflect back to itself. PML in HFSS does the same job but is more recommanded yet more challenging to use.

If you are not interested in radiation, my guess is that you should still specify as at high frequency, the radiation will affect the current flow in the structure.

Hope this helps.

Dear abhi_kolkata

accoring to the HFSS manual: in section 5.6
there is a cpw bowite antenna example
say, from 8 to 10GHz , then , we should set the radiatin airbox lambda/4 larger , where the lambda is according to 8 GHz .

Hi, you must draw, radiation boundary around radiate face(s), antena. Min length is lamda/4 around this face(s).
My experience is, lamda/3 is better for better results.

Good Luck

you can to here find to explain..
