HFSS waveport

Hi,

I am currently start to explore the HFSS v9.2.
Before that, I have learned that there are wave and lumped port for the simulation.

My question is if I would like to simulate a structure (assuming it a retangular model), it is always a "must" that I need to draw a 2-D vertical square at the input and output and assigned it as a port (not matter whether I am using wave/lumped port)?

Thanks for the advise in advance.

Hi camel_RF:

yes it is correct , if you want to simulate the supply as the port (lumped or wave) you should choose a 2D cross section , but , you should not choose the supply as wave port or lumped port necessarily . you can choose an object as the current source or voltage source not a 2D object.
if you have problem with the port source , it is better for you to try with other source .
regard.

not necesarially.....you can use any face of an object to setup
a port..waveport or lumped. the problem with that is that you are
restricted to the modes that the port can propagate. for lumped
port that is not a problem since it is a node port. With wave port
the size will determine the mode it can propagate.
