Introduction of lumped element in Mgrid for current and radiation pattern simulations

时间:03-22 整理:3721RD 点击:
Hi,
i would like to know if it's possible to introduce lumped element in Mgrid for current and radiation pattern simulations?
In fact, i have to simulate an antenna with several lumped elements in it middle.
I have used Modula to simulate te overall antenna but i have just the frequentiel response!

Thanks,

Hi, Sammi:

On MODUA of IE3D, if you select FILE->ADD GEOMETRY MODULE to add at least one geometry (.geo) file into the design, you will have the choice to create the total radiation pattern of the complete design consisting of one or multiple geometyr modules. If you have s-parameters modules in the design, their s-parameters will be included in the s-parameter simulation. However, their radiations will not be included. The capabilty should meet your needs.

Some old version of IE3D/MGRID allows you to put lumped elements on MGRID. However, it was not good for radiation pattern calculation. The above discussed feature should be good for you.

Regards.

Thank you jian for your reply,
but i dont find the option to create the total radiation pattern of the complete design in MODULA.
youd said "you will have the choice to create the total radiation pattern of the complete design consisting of one or multiple geometyr modules"
Exactely, i have an antenna with several lumped elements(L and C), after simulate the antenna without lumped element in Mgrid, i import geometry to Modula and i conect them to lumped elements, and i simulate the overall structure , but i cannot return to MGRID to simulate the curent ant the radiation patterns of the Antenna with lumped elements.

Thanks,

Hi, sami273:

Following are the points:

1. When you SIMULATE on MGRID, you will have the option for saving the current distribution and radiation pattern.
2. When you SIMULATE on MODUA without any geometry modules, MODUA will just perform a simulation and find the s-parameters for you.
3. When you SIMULATE on MODUA with one or more geometry modules, MODUA will prompt you a dialog similar to the MGRID except you can not change the pre-defined frequency points, which might be related to the frequency points of the s-parameter modules. You will also have the choice for saving the current distirbution and radiation pattern. If you want to find the radiation pattern of the complete design on MODUA, which may include one or multiple geometry modules, you should check the saving radiation pattern option. MODUA will invoke IE3D to perform a mixed EM and circuit co-simulation on it. You will get the combined radiaiton pattern from the one or multiple geometry modules with all the lumped elements connected. When you do such a simulation involving multiple geometry modules, please make sure you define the locations of the multiple geometry modules correctly. The location information is critical when we combine the patterns from the multiple geometry modules. In some sense, you should put each geometry module into the corresponding location when they are together. You can not put all of them close to the origin. If you do so, IE3D will find the pattern with them in the exact locations they are while each of them will be "invisible" to other geometry modules. Regards.

Thank you jian for your first help.
However, i have another problem with IE3D, exactly with the different ports included in Mgrid.
In fact, i have to simulate an antenna with several lumped elements; the antenna is a dipole antenna i.e. an antenna composed of 2 identical parts, which is feed with localized horizontal port (+1 and -1). This antenna doesn?t need a ground plan.
In order to add lumped element, it's important to put in the structure other ports (extension port, localized port ...).
Each emplacement of lumped element is replaced in MGRID by a gap with two ports head-to-foot.
My problem is that all ports in Mgrid needs reference plan but in my structure i don' have one.

Thanks,
S@mi

Hi, Sami273:

It is not necessary for IE3D's ports to have reference ground planes. For differential ports, ground plane is not necessary. You just need to have the reference terminal or the negative terminal (or port). Attached is an example, you can see the 5_ports.geo with five h-localized ports. You can connect lumped elements to any of the ports. The MODUA file test.dsg tells you how to connect lumped elements to it. Please pay attention to the short for each lumped element connection. It means the 2nd terminal of the R or C is connected to the return path of the port where the 1st terminal of the R or C is connected to. Basicall, each of the 2 terminal elements (R or C) is connected across the h-localized port. Regards.

Sorry. I forgot to attach the file.[/u]

Hi jian, thank you a lot for ur help.
But the file 5_ports.geo, which you sent me, is empty, it don't contain any thing.

Sami,

Hi, sami273: The files are not supposed to be empty. It might be you are using an old version of IE3D or v.10. It can't read the v.11 file. Attached are the files in v.9 format. Regards.

Hi jian,
you are right, i have IE3D v10.3, now it work correctely.
Thank you very much for ur help.

Regards,
Sami

hi,
One can introduce lumped elements in HFSS also rite?.
