A question?

I am a student of electronical engeeniering and i am a new user of ie3d simulation program and i dont know how to put connectors on a structure.İn this structure there are two connectors on two sides.this is really a simple structure with a finite ground plane.I know the sizes and parameters but first of all, i want to learn how to put connectors on simple structures.İf anyone have an example like this,or anyone can form this structure and send me the file i would be thankful and greatful.Thanks...

Hi, pegasuss:

(1) You can use ADV EXTENSION ports for the microstrip structures. If you model it as finite ground, you can use differential ports (either + and - using ADV EXTENSION ports or v-localized and h-localized ports).
(2) You can use IE3D to model the connector more precisely. The procedure is a little bit tedious. We will try to simplify it. FDTD and FEM are normally more efficient for the connector parts.

Best regards,

Thanks. So if i use adv extension ports do they do the connector's job?So there is no need to put connectors on structure is it right?

Hi, pegasuss:

If your circuit is a sub-circuit of a large structure, you shouild use ADV EXTENSION ports for it. Certainly, connectors are important. There are some parasitics and other effects there. Very precisely modeling of connectors on MOM simulators are not easy even though it is possible you can do it on IE3D. However, normally, connectors happen in the input and output of the final module only. You can add some small parasitic elements there to improve the results using ADV EXTENSION ports. Best regards.
