convert hfss13 to hfss12 or older
I have design an antenna in hfss13
but now I want to send it to my friend that use hfss12
How can I "save as" my file to load in Hfss12 ?
my friend doesnt have hfss13
thanks all
You might find it works without any messing around. I know version 14 files opened in 13. A warning was issued, but they worked.
Obviously if there was some new feature in 13 that was not in 12, but you used it, your friend would get problems, but I suspect for relatively simple designs, you will be ok.
If it wont open, you could try editing the version number near the top of the file to make it appear to come from the version 12. You might need a binary editor, as some parts of the file look to be binary, but the top section is plain text. But a text editor might screw up the rest.
You could try asking Ansys. They might be able to help you.

drkirby is right... HFSS, or any other tool, cannot guarantee backward compatibility due to new features and other code changes. If you want to go back to 12, you can export your HFSS13 project as an *.sm3 file and use HFSS12 to import this geometry. You will have to reset your setup, frequency sweep, etc, but at least your geometry and materials will come across!
Have Fun!
This is not a backwards compatibility issue. According to Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backward_compatibility
"In telecommunications and computing, a product or technology is backward or downward compatible if it can work with input generated by an older product or technology"
but that's not what is needed here. What is needed here is for the old version to work with input generated by a newer version. i.e. it is a forwards compatibility problem.

I was not aware of the *.sm3 file, so I learned something from your post. You are clearly an HFSS guru
touche :) I learn something new everyday too! I never thought to look up the exact meaning on that!
