YIG Comb Generator manual
I have the Watkins-Johnson YIG COMB GENERATOR WJ5238-14DA, 0.8 -18.0 Ghz. Would someone have a data sheet on this unit?
It has a old serial 9 pin connector and I do not know what pins are for WHAT? I only want to produce a COMB like output that will turn a diode laser on and off at the nanosecond or picosecond rate. (one billion to one trillion times a second). It does not have to be NEAT and CLEAN...........just ON/OFF.
I have a 400 meg Techtronix Oscope and a HP E4432 signal generator. I EVEN THOUGHT OF RUNNING THE DIODE LASER OFF THE SIGNAL GENERATOR WITH A BIAS VOLTAGE TO GET IT UP TO POWER THE DIODE!

No, that is NOT what you want to use. A YIG COMB GEN has an impulse generator followed by a tunable bandpass filter. So the output of the unit will be a sine wave at the frequency that the tunable bandpass filter is tuned to. Also, the output voltage will probably be in the 50 mV range--not enough to turn anything on without further amplification.
What pulse width, pulse repetition rate, and output voltage/current are you looking for?
I want the fastest pulse train I can acheive (ON?OFF?ON?OFF...) for the diode laser at from 3.0 to 5.0 volts and less than 1000 milliamps.
Can I use a PIN or SRD Diode to "CHOP OFF" (rectify) the YIG Comb sine wave into a pulse train with the period of the orginal sine? I could BIAS the output of the YIG Comb to bring the voltage (up from below) and activate the laser with the pulse train enbeded?
THANKS for the info,
David
Well, like I said, the yig comb is very unsuited to delievering anything like a 1 A pulse at .5 nS width.
Why don't you start smaller and work your way up with a LD162DZ_G0
http://www.euvis.com/products/ic/index.html
it can do 80 mA at sub nS widths, and you could start off driving it with your e4432
OK, thanks. I will look into the LD162DZ-G0 as you have suggested. These "PROJECTS" of mine are all done on a "shoestring".....retired on a fixed income!
I snatch up equipment on Ebay that I THINK might work in some aspect of my projects..........the costS then are more or less "shoestring" and I have to nexus the stuff together when I understand enough about the NEW TOY ;LOL.
HOWEVER, sometimes I get an Ebay item that remains in the SUPPLY area.
THANKS again,
David
Hi dear friend, i'am looking for a info about WJ 572-59 yig 2,16 to 4,16 i have a information pin but haven't a voltage ref and voltage tuning
you can help me?
