metamaterial unitcell in HFSS

Your question is not specific. The simulation will run, yes. The question you need to answer first is: what do you want to simulate?

This setup will model some sort of plane-wave(ish) mode transmitting through an infinitely large (in the transverse direction) sheet, which is one unit-cell thick (I'm assuming you have another wave port on the far side -x axis).
