difference between IFA and Meander antenna

Hi,

Can any one explain me the difference between the inverted F antenna and the Meander antenna?
IFA has a short circuited line attached to it. But apart from this what is the major difference between these two antennas in terms of working? is there any concern with the symmetry? which one is better for sub GHz application?

The inverted antennas are essentially complementary versions of the meander antenna. That is, if you cut a meander antenna out of a continuous sheet of metal, you would have an inverted antenna in that sheet of metal. They typically have similar radiation and bandwidth properties, but the inverted antennas tend to have lower input impedance so they are often closer to 50 ohms than the meander type antennas.

Unclear question and wrong answer by rrumpf.
An inverted F-antenna with/without meandered shape is a common antenna type. F-antenna is often used when height above ground is limited. Meandering is way to make any antenna arm a bit shorter. Mainly used when available length is limited, but it can also be a part of dual band design.
Bending or twisting an antenna to reduce its occupied space do cost antenna performance.
Yes, design it for best performance. That shape is often depending on available space, size of ground plane and similar factors.
Good measured performance can be related to such factors as space, polarization, bandwidth or efficiency. Which of these factors that are more important depends on you application.
Antennas in general scales equal relative frequency. Practically can a specific antenna be a better choice, it depend on your situation.
Some low frequency antennas designs are more practical in a big tower, but is a bad choice at high frequencies if it should be printed on a PCB.

Inverted F-antenna is not a complementary version of a meander shape.
IFA basic shape is a monopole bent and feed such that the antenna shape can be seen as a forward tilted letter "F".
Meander antenna is an antenna with repeating S-shaped bends. Can be a the shape of many types of antenna arms, including inverted F-antenna.
