Why do you need to sweep the network analyzer at the same time and at the same amount you sweep the tracking generator? So that the signal appears at the middle of the screen, hence possibly more amplitude accurate?
For example, why can't one use just a sweep oscillator and set the SA at full span to analyze the network's behaviour?
There is a function (It can be implemented with a computer program as well) that keeps the previously read amplitudes on the screen, like a "screen memory". My scope has this function as well for keeping the previous samples on the screen "memory" so each sample is displayed on top of the other. Old Tektronix used a screen with special phosphor to do something like this.
