Using Coupler Isolator for Protection

Hi all, I was reading some old(like 10 year old) posts about using detectors and couplers for PA protection in case of VSWR and Antenna mismatch, and some posts between @vfone @biff44 got my attention.

When saying use reverse port, what you mean by that?

I thought using reverse port was to use coupler as a variable attenuator for some cases.
