Weighted/Tapered array mutual coupling in HFSS!
Now I am simulating a weighted/tapered array (I use Excitations> Edit sources to add the weights). However, when it comes to S-parameters the results are always for the passive/matched array with no weights for the elements.
How can I integrate/embed powers to the elements so that I can see the real coupling between the elements (as some elements have more power than the other and has more effect).
Thanks in advance,
Mu
Keep in mind the definition of S-parameters -- they're inherently just a ratio of some output voltage to some input voltage. You can then find out the actual power being coupled by squaring the relevant S-parameter and multiplying by the input power.
Good Luck!
Hey!
Thanks a lot that is an eye opener.
I still have a quick question, assuming we have the following linear array:
X X X X X with feed [-2, -1, 0, -1, -2]dB.
In this case the mutual coupling is not reciprocal, right?
================================================
The extended question will be like. Assuming we have identical arrays like
X1 X2 X3 X4 X5
01 02 03 04 05
with the same feed scheme [-2,-1,0,-1,-2]dB
Now, HFSS simulates all the ports with the same power input, however we have 2 arrays, 5 elements each.
So, according to your suggestion I'd assume in this case that the expression would be like > (S(03,X2)/10)^2)*0.8W) .>> Is that true!
Thanks in advance
I need to clarify in my previous post that I am of course not referring to total voltages, but rather the "in" and "out" travelling voltage waves. These will be the same as the total voltages if the measurement ports are matched.
The coupling should always be reciprocal between elements. So, if you wanted to find the power coupled from, say, X1 to X4, you'd have (S(X4,X1)^2)*(10^(-1/10)), where S(X4,X1) = S(X1,X4). Again, this assumes that none of the power is reflected at the ports.
