CST : Metal Thickness

Hi, :)
Thanks a lot in advance.
Could I define "zero" thickness metalization in CST?
I tried to use "curve", but I can not define the material.
Also, I tried to use "Brick" with zero height, but a error message prompted.
Thank you !!

WH

Hi whtu,

it is possible. But pls tell us why u want 0 thickess for 3D solver?

after u define curve, cover curve. Define material.

For meshing zero thickness material, u have to change to staircase mesh.

Hope this helps.

Hi, Element7k
Thank you for your answering.
I am a novice of CST.
I am just wondering if using zero thickness metal could help reduce simulation time and give me the similar result to that of nonzero thickness metal case. The metal thickness is not a serious issue in my problem; I am not concerned about the edge coupling effect. Also, I use PEC for all metals, and there should be zero electric field intensity inside PEC. Although the WCS is very powerful, I always got trouble when I drawn my circuit because of the tiny metal thickness. It is not easy to find where am I. :(
So, if I can use zero thickness metal, and it can give me a similar result to that of nonzero thickness metal case, it's would be good for me.
Thank you :D

Hi whtu,

yes, I think it will help as it "may" reduce the no. of mesh cells and memory requirement. This really depend on you geometry. But be careful as staircase mesh might not be a good approximation for your geometry (e.g. bends and curves)

In staircase mesh, if the material is PEC, than it keeps zero thickness. If the material is NORMAL, the thickness is extended to one mesh cell. However, I think it is not recommended for circuit traces based problems where waves propagation is important. However, if u r using it for casing I don't see a problem.

You can draw your cct in 2D then use cures--> extrude planar curve (close curves only) to make it solid with your desired height.

Hope this helps. :)

Cheers,
Element7k
