PPatch antenna using HFSS. Could anybody help me?

First of all, hello everybody, this is my first post. This site is great! 8O

Well, I have a problem simulating microstrip ppatch antennas using Ansoft HFSS 9.1. I simulated with HFSS three antennas (all simulated with other software and measured) and the S11 return loss I find are wrong...For example, the operation frequency of one of these antennas is 4.5 GHz but in the HFSS simulation it is at 4.25 GHz. The same happens with the other designs....

I have made a lot of simulations, "playing" with the adaptive analysis, passes, the mesh, the fast/interpolated sweep, the radiation box, etc, and nothing...

I have no HFSS microstrip planar antennas example to use it as manual so I was very grateful if anyone could tell me where find one or pass me some planar antenna design.

Or if somebody is having a nice day and is bored :P, attached is a HFSS design to let this charitable soul have a look...

well, .25/4.4~=6%, i should say that this is a good result :), really. the Finite Element Method (FEM), used for simulations in HFSS, is not so suit for MPAs, its better for 3D structures such as waveguides. the best simulation method for this kind of EM problems is proved to be MoM and integral equations, and i think the best tool is I E 3 D. other powerfull method is FDTD, (with cool new boundery conditions and conformal meshing, and other things!), and i think the best here is C S T Microw ave St udio. i think you have good results with HFSS. :)

it is becouse of internal moderation code, changing p@tch to fix!, becouse of other p@tch meanings! ;). we use here p@tch. its better :).

Well, in other designs I find high error, but, anyways, this 6% is enough error if you want the antenna to work in a specific band of hundreds of MHz...

So, are you telling me this is normal while simulating MPAs with HFSS??? 8O 8O Is the FEM so different from the FDTD? 8O 8O

I get better results with "myFDTD" (a very simple simulator...) in beta version!!!!

I agree with Mamali that best method for solving patch antenna problems is MoM. We use Designer/Ensemble with very good results.

However for your immediate problem, try HFSS tech support. With one glaring and notable exception, every EDA vendor we have used has very good tech support.
