What are the TE and TM modes?
could any one help me to explain what is TM and TE actually mean. Im confused by to many engineering term of it...
Thanks
TE means transverse Electric
and TM means transverse magnatic
EM waves have two componant E electric and H magnatic perpendicular to each other.
and when EM wave propagates
with recpect to direction of propagation we calculate E(x,y,z) or H(x,y,z)
so if the electric field of waveis purly transverse-right angle or 90 degree to the direction of propagation that wave called
Transverse Electric (TE) wave
and if the magnetic field of wave is purly transverse to the direction of propagation that wave called TM
Transverse magnatic wave
and if both field are transverse that wave is TEM wave
waveguides TE TM modes are based on this fundamentals

the gbaerf reply is simlple and complete.
but it is better for you to refer to advanced electomagnetic books for the best definition.
one of them is in this link:(you should refer to chapter 4 and 5)https://www.edaboard.com/ftopic135416.html
