difficulty in linking polarization with E-plane pattern

hi, from my understanding, we are able to tell the polarization of the antenna by looking at the far field E-plane pattern

by looking at r|Ephi| when phi = 0 and 90 degrees and r|Etheta| when phi = 0 and 90 degrees. by comparing the magnitude at both angles, we are able now if it is linear polarized and whether it is vertical or horizontal polarized.


Does anyone know or recommend what books i can read to understand this. Thanks.
