Q: Does CC2640 Support Bluetooth version 4.2 or Mesh Networks
The CC2640 with BLE-Stack v2.2.1 supports Bluetooth core specification version 4.2 including all new LE features (LE Secure Connections, LE Data Length Extension, LE Privacy 1.2). Additionally, support is provided for all Bluetooth version 4.1 core specification LE features, including multi Master/Slave capability ("MultiRole") for connections up to 8 devices. As with all LE features added after the initial Bluetooth 4.0 specification, support of v4.1 and v4.2 features are optional. The TI BLE-Stack allows you to selectively configure just the features (v4.0, v4.1 and v4.2) that are needed for your application.
A description for using the v4.2 features is provided in the included CC2640 BLE Software Developer’s Guide (SWRU393).
On November 11, 2015, the Bluetooth SIG announced enhancements to Bluetooth low energy coming in 2016, including official support for Mesh Networks. TI intends to support the SIG Mesh standard sometime after the official standard is adopted by SIG.
